Nestled in a quite nook of
the Eastern Exposition fairgrounds beneath stately
elms, Storrowton is the embodiment of an early New
England village with authentic, furnished period
buildings surrounding a picturesque Green. Among
these is the awesome Gilbert Homestead, a farmhouse
built in West Brookfield in 2794 by two brothers,
Levi and Peletiah Gilbert. The Gilbert family is
directly descended from Sir Humphrey Gilbert, the
English navigator, and half brother to Sir Walter
Raleigh. Third in this sampler series, the Gilbert
Homestead is depicted in its true simplicity and
character, on 28-count light grey Jobelan, stitched
in the traditional holiday motif. "Zebulon", the
village cat, is apparent in this design, and
becomes the stylized animal found in THC sampler
designs.
